Dr. Iyer is passionate about physician wellness and has provided therapy, coaching and professional guidance to physicians on an individual basis for several years. She also presently facilitates support groups for physicians within her community. She enjoys sharing her experiences and viewpoints through speaking engagements and writing.
Her work with physicians aims to:
- Improve feelings of professional fulfillment
- Lower stress and achieve a more sound and balanced life
- Deepen and strengthen important personal and professional relationships
- Improve resilience
- Identify and engage in habits that increase growth and happiness
Dr. Iyer had initially worked with physicians who experienced impairment that impacted their personal and professional abilities. She later switched her focus to wellness, in order to prevent burnout, impairment and mental health symptoms. She works from a place of encouraging self-compassion, empathy and mindfulness.
While burnout is certainly a function of the workplace and the physician burnout crisis is one that necessitates a large national shift within the culture of healthcare, Dr. Iyer focuses with the physicians to empower them with tools to strengthen them, learn about negotiations, learn about the subconscious biases that limit us and keep us stuck in unhealthy patterns.
